VCH SC Home Care Services Volunteer Driver Position (For Senior’s Medical Appointments)
Time Commitment: weekdays, weekends, flexible scheduling based on appointments. Local trips from Langdale to HMB and some off coast trips.
Position Overview
Volunteer Drivers support seniors (who can transfer themselves in and out of the vehicle on their own and have no other means of transportation) by providing safe, reliable transportation to and from medical appointments. This role helps reduce barriers to healthcare access while offering reassurance, dignity, and companionship to clients who may otherwise be unable to attend essential medical visits independently.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide door-to-door transportation for seniors attending medical appointments (e.g., clinics, hospitals, diagnostic centres)
• Ensure clients arrive on time for scheduled appointments and return them home safely
• Offer friendly, respectful interaction and reassurance throughout the visit
• Maintain client confidentiality and follow VCH privacy guidelines
• Communicate scheduling updates or client concerns to program staff
• Follow all safety, infection control, and transportation policies
Qualifications & Requirements
• Valid driver’s licence and access to a safe, reliable vehicle, current insurance and a clean driving record/abstract note
• Ability to assist seniors with mobility support (e.g., steadying, folding walkers and wheelchairs) there is no lifting, touching or transferring of Client
• Strong communication skills and a calm demeanor, reliable, punctual & work independently
• Completion of required VCH volunteer screening/tasks (criminal record check, interview, references, orientation, and training)
This is a non-medical role; volunteers do not provide clinical care or attend appointments unless directed by program staff. Volunteers are not to lift, touch or transfer clients in and out of the vehicle. Under no circumstances should you ever use a client’s vehicle.
