What do you do when seniors can’t get out to shop? – you bring the store to them.
Sunshine Coast Health Auxiliary volunteers set up shop at Totem Lodge on the afternoon of June 19th and provided a personal shopping experience. It brightened up the day for many residents who eagerly tried on, modelled and “purchased” the great selection of merchandise.
For the past 3 months the Tuesday and Friday volunteers at the Thrift Store have been putting aside a suitable selection of clothing and accessories for both men and women. On the day Ian delivered 8 totes of clothing, a bag of stuffed animals and a bag of jewelry.
Residents at Totem Lodge received a $10.00 Thrift Store voucher in their Christmas stocking, this was the perfect chance to redeem their voucher and it made for a purely enjoyable shopping experience. SCH auxiliaries provided personal shopping attention, helping the seniors select suitable sizes and styles to upgrade their wardrobes. From cozy pyjamas and stuffies to lovely outfits and accessories, there was something for everyone. As Jennifer Gray said “What a good feeling to assist these folks in an activity that hopefully brought back good memories, prompted making choices, and made them feel pampered”.
Thanks to everyone who made this day a success, our Tuesday and Friday gals who put aside the perfect items, to Ian, our trusty delivery person, and of course the shopping assistants and set up crew, well done! We couldn’t do it without this great team.
