On Wed Oct 4,2017, 40 members of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary hosted the AGM for the BCAHA Lower Mainland area. The theme was “Health, Harmony and Humour”.
The day began with an update from both Karin Olson, COO, Vancouver Coastal Health and Lauren Tindall, Director for Community Care, Vancouver Coastal Health. They provided an overview of the evolving state of healthcare from an urban and rural perspective. Following a short AGM, Nancy Baker who is a Mediator, Facilitator and Coach provided an interactive workshop entitled “Communication Tools to Work Well Together”. Participants had a chance to refresh their skills in dealing with a wide variety of communication challenges. A scrumptious buffet lunch, sponsored by Vancouver Coastal Health was enjoyed by all.
After lunch, the stand up comedy group, “Stand Up For Mental Health” gave us some perspective and understanding of the challenges of living with a mental illness. Their courage to poke fun at themselves in front of a large audience to promote tolerance and understanding was admirable. Many thanks to the hardworking Education Committee headed by Trish Sayre and Dee Reynolds (assisted by Shelley Grainger) for putting the event together.
