The Member branches of the SCHA have been busy fundraising this fall and preparing for the festive season with Bazaars, Fairs and Bake, Craft & Plant sales! A popular item this year has been the lotto tree which was welcomed at each of the sales it appeared.

Congratulations to Hopkins members on the success of the Fall Bazaar & Marketplace fundraiser. This event couldn’t have happened without the many volunteer hours, and the generous donations from our members and community. What an amazing day on Saturday, November 2! Doors opened at 10 am and the hall filled with happy shoppers until 2 pm. Not only did folks shop for odds & ends, collectibles, jewelry, hand crafted driftwood trees, home-made baked goods, crafts and books, but many participated in the Lotto Tree Raffle, 50/50 Draw, Silent Auction and the delicious lunch offered. This event raised over $16,000. A big shout out to the Gibsons Legion in providing us with this space over two days. Two recent recipients of donations from the funds raising at these type of events were, the SCCSS Building Together Project and the 50 Women Campaign. This goes to support: affordable housing for women and children; a community services hub accessible to everyone and a safer, more accessible neighbourhood. A truly worthy cause in our community. Also $2,000 was donated to the St. Bart’s Food Bank. This donation goes to support community members in need.

The Halfmoon Bay Branch had a very successful Baking, Craft and Plant sale on November 23 at Trail Bay Mall. Our wonderful volunteers came through once again raising over $6,500 for healthcare on the coast. New this year was a driftwood lottery tree – Andy Jones-Cox created the beautiful tree and it was decorated with $100 worth of scratch and win tickets. What fun our winner Jim and his family will have with that! Congratulations, Jim, and many thanks to our volunteers who give of their time and resources so generously.

The Sechelt Branch held a Bake & Craft Sale on Nov 26 in Trail Bay Mall. Our members had a fun and festive time raising funds for healthcare on the Sunshine Coast. Many thanks to the Sechelt members who baked and gave their time to set up, sell, and take down after the sale.

Happy Holidays to all!
