On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, some of the residents were gathering early for a concert in the Bistro presented by the Coastal Recital Society.

Four young musicians, winners of scholarships from the Society were about to play for us when one of the residents – with a twinkle in his eye – looked at Jinny who was holding her instrument and asked “Is that a violin or a fiddle?”. She smiled and said “It could be either.” And he replied “Well, just don’t fiddle around, eh?”

That’s when I knew we were in for a good time! Carolyn Mitchell from CRS introduced us to Toby on piano, Alina on cello, Jinny on violin/fiddle, and Lief on saxophone. Then we heard an incredible repertoire of music, mostly solos but also some duets – everything from Bach and Haydn to modern day folk music. I looked around the room and saw smiling faces totally enrapt in the beautiful music we were hearing. As we were heading back to our various floors after the performance, I could imagine this music would be resounding in the heads of all those who attended for many hours after.

We wish these talented musicians all the best in their future studies and can imagine them going on to great futures in music. And we thank the CRS for bringing us this ray of sunshine as summertime draws to a close.
