St. Mary’s Hospital/Health Care Auxiliary Fall Conference Caring For Ourselves offered a mix of presentations and speakers to nurture our personal development and hone our leadership skills.

The day started with a continental breakfast, quickly followed by the presentation Everybody’s Talking! Confidentiality in our Auxiliary Roles, by Carol Tanner, RN BNSc, Coordinator, Health Care Assistant Program, for Capilano University.

The second morning session was Bone Health and Osteoporosis: prevention, diagnosis, care and treatment, a dynamic presentation by Sue North (Nurse Clinician), Debbie Reid (Dietitian) and Marcella Paoletti (Physiotherapist), from the Osteoporosis Program B.C.Women’s Health.

After lunch conference delegates chose between:

The Personal Development Stream The State of Your Estate, where a panel of local experts, featured Sandy McBride (Sunshine Coast Credit Union Financial Planner), Lois Potter (Lawyer) , Chris Reid (CPA Estate Accountant and Sunshine Coast Community Foundation representative), and Mary Anne Darney (Vice President Sunshine Coast Hospice Society), will demystify investment and succession planning, wills and probate, power of attorney and living wills.

The Leadership Development Stream Health and Harmony in our Work Spaces. Topics included Interpersonal communication – human brain patterns and why it is important: Listening to understand and speaking to be understood, giving feedback and setting boundaries, and a step by step process to resolve conflict when it arises. Presented by Nancy Baker, Mediator, Facilitator, Consultant and Coach, MA in Leadership, ConRes.
