At the close of class on January 18 the 20 students in the Healthcare Assistant Program at the Sechelt campus of Capilano University were visited by representatives of the Hopkins Branch of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary.

In recognition of their hard work and dedication to a much needed field of study, the students were all given $100 towards course expenses. These funds have been collected in the Hopkins Branch Memorial Fund which gets donations in memoriam or gifts for other celebrations.

The students were completely surprised and expressed their gratitude with comments including, “We have had a very challenging week and this unexpected gift makes it end on a high note”, “The SC Healthcare Auxiliary does such good work. They still found time to remember us and show up in person to give us such a nice present”, “What an amazing group of people and this gift shows so much respect for our careers”.

The students will complete a challenging 7 month program in April and past graduates have achieved a 92% employment rate in positions in hospitals, seniors care facilities and home care.
